Checklist For An Overseas Career Change

When the sun comes out in Paris, regardless of the temperature, everyone flocks to the cafes to sip coffee and watch the world go by. And without fail, among the people-watchers are others scribbling furiously in a notebook (in rare cases, on an iPad or small laptop, though the preponderance of pen and paper is surprising). “Aspirational Hemingways,” I call them. People who come to Paris to write a book. Not all of them young – many with graying hair – perhaps testimony to the fact that one has to be of a certain age an income level to be able to afford coffee at a sidewalk café in Paris these days. (Though you can nurse that $5 coffee for hours and no one will kick you off the terrace.)
